Day 7 - Montpelier Idaho to Evanston Wyoming

Today's route is generally known for having a headwind most of the way. A strong headwind can turn a 94 mile day like today in to a really tough slog. For whatever reason, we had almost no headwind and experienced mostly crosswinds and tailwinds.

The morning started out at 30 degrees again but rapidly warmed up in to the mid-60's. The first part of the day was really nice scenery culminating with a ride of about ten miles along the west shore of Bear Lake. Bear Lake is a very large lake that is about half in Idaho and half in Utah. There is a lot of development along the lake, including marinas and lakeside residences.

Immediately after leaving the Bear Lake shoreline, we encountered a four mile long climb out of the valley. After a slow ascent of the grade, the next eight miles or so were on a steady downhill with speeds between 30-40 mph all the way down. We made good time and ended up at lunch before 11:00. The last 33 miles were pretty easy and we got here to the hotel at 2:00.

On paper, tomorrow looks like the toughest day of the trip at 149 miles and 8,700 feet of climbing. It's going to be a long day but the day after that is only 54 miles.
