It's amazing what a difference a day can make. I felt great the whole day and it was the longest to date and had the most climbing to date. I think getting out of the heat was a huge part of it. I can't function when it's over 100 degrees.
The route today was beautiful. It was a mix of desert and forest. The elevation was high enough that the temperatures stayed below 90 the whole day. A few of the climbs were hot because you were in the direct sun and there was not much air movement because you were going too slow.
There were also tailwinds most of the day and that helped a lot. I finished the day for the first time this trip feeling really good and ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow is an easy 120 miles over to Springerville. That will be a nice recovery day before the big mileage days in Texas and Oklahoma.
