Today was for me an extremely difficult 124 miles through the desert of California and Arizona. I felt pretty good until about mile 80 and then I just couldn't maintain my riding speed. I did okay time wise but it was tough on the body. The good news is I made it to Quartzsite at 2:30.
Ninety percent of where we rode was desert. The temperatures were in excess of 100 degrees for much of the day. There was no shade at all. I've never ridden in conditions like these. I'm not acclimated to the heat and even if I was I'd still have trouble. It was just a very tough day that I hope doesn't adversely affect me tomorrow.
Tomorrow we ride 139 miles to Prescott. It should not be as hot but it will still be in the 90s and there is a lot of climbing. If we can get an early start in the morning that should help.
